Literature Statement
The
Al-Anon program has an extensive list of books, many in both hard and soft cover, daily readers, pamphlets, packets of information
for newcomers and public outreach resource information. The Al-Anon Family Groups offer a wide range of literature covering a
variety of topics relating to people affected by someone else's drinking. Reading of Al-Anon Conference Approved Literature, or
CAL, is a vital part of the recovery process. This is especially true in the first year of recovery because it contains only the
Al-Anon / Alateen perspective of the effects the disease has on those other than the alcoholic..
As
it is with the sharing of experience, strength and hope in an Al-Anon or Alateen meeting, the literature is written solely by
members within this fellowship. We do not hire professionals to express what can only be reflected and commented on by those who
have experienced living with the disease of alcoholism.
You
will find many of these publications available at Al-Anon / Alateen meetings in Texas and elsewhere, including publications
designed especially for newcomers to Al-Anon. Some of these publications are provided free at meetings through the donations of
the meeting group members.
Presently,
the San Antonio Al-Anon Information Service has a limited inventory of Conference Approved Literature. For a current list of
publications currently in stock, please Email your request to Literature Chairman at SAAIS@yahoo.com.
You
may also order Al-Anon literature and Alateen literature through a local meeting, or receive it directly from the Al-Anon Family
Groups World Service Organization. You can reach the World Service Organization at 1-800-344-2666, or order on-line at www.al-anon-alateen.org.
If
you would like additional information, have questions, or if you have problems with this site, please email us at SAAIS@yahoo.com.
All messages received will only be read and responded to by Al-Anon members on a confidential basis.

Statement of Purpose -
Al-Anon’s Suggested Preamble to
The Twelve Steps
The Al-Anon Family Groups are a
fellowship of relatives and friends of alcoholics who
share their experience, strength, and hope, in order to
solve their common problems. We believe alcoholism is a
family illness, and that changed attitudes can aid
recovery..
Al-Anon is not allied with any sect, denomination,
political entity, organization, or institution; does not
engage in any controversy, neither endorses nor opposes
any cause. There are no dues for membership. Al-Anon is
self-supporting through its own voluntary contributions.
Al-Anon has but one purpose: to help families of
alcoholics. We do this by practicing the Twelve Steps,
by welcoming and giving comfort to families of
alcoholics, and by giving understanding and
encouragement to the alcoholic.
